Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide Sedation or “Laughing Gas” is a commonly used type of inhalation sedation. Nitrous oxide is a fast-acting gas that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through the nose for the duration of your dental appointment. It induces a state of relaxation reducing any worry or anxiety that may be associated with dental treatment.

What are the advantages of using Nitrous Oxide Sedation?

  • It is very safe and has few side effects.
  • Unlike other forms of anaesthsia, with Nitrous Oxide Sedation you are still conscious and able to respond to the dentist’s questions and instructions.
  • It is fast-acting and induces a pleasurable state in only minutes.
  • Nitrous oxide is only administered for the duration of your appointment. Once the inhalation process has stopped your body will return to it’s normal state within minutes.
