Fillings

Georgetown's Trusted, Family-Friendly Dentist

A cavity is caused when bacteria creates a hole in the hard surfaces of your teeth. The damaged tooth material needs to be removed and it is replaced with a filling. Many of us who grew up before the time of fluoridated water have a mouth full of silver fillings called amalgams. While these fillings have proven to be very durable they are not very pleasing to the eye.

Fortunately recent advances in dental materials have made it possible to use tooth coloured filling material known as composite. Composite can be virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and is used to achieve long lasting and attractive fillings.  It is even possible to use composite to replace old amalgam fillings that have started to deteriorate or simply detract from the appearance of our patient’s smiles.
